Poha Upma | Atukulu Upma | Avalakki Uppittu | Kanda Poha

This poha upma recipe is actually a variation of South Indian upma made with poha. It's a quick recipe to prepare and is healthy too.

Ingredients

  • 1 string of curry leaves
  • 2 glasses poha
  • 2 tbsp groundnuts
  • 1 tsp rasam powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 7/8 chillies
  • 2 tbsp coriander
  • 5 big onions, finely chopped
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 tbsp jaggery
  • 1/2 tsp mustard
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • Salt as per taste
  • Cucumber for garnish
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

Recipe

  1. Into a bowl, add 2 glasses of poha and wash it thoroughly.
  2. Remove and excess water and keep the poha aside.
  3. Add 1tsp rasam powder, 1 tbsp jaggery, salt, lemon juice and mix all the ingredients well.
  4. Add some water and soak the poha for 2 hours.
  5. Into a pan, add 3 tbsp oil, a pinch of asafoetida, 2 tbsp groundnuts, 1 tbsp chana dal, 1/2 tsp mustard, sliced chillies, curry leaves, chopped onions and saute all the ingredients well.
  6. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and saute.
  7. Add soaked poha and mix everything well.
  8. Garnish with some coriander and cucumber and enjoy this yummy and healthy breakfast.
