Know your Skin Type

Did you know that every skin type reacts differently to different ingredients? Using the wrong ingredients for wrong skin type can lead to irritated skin, breakouts and premature aging. choosing the correct skin care routine for your skin type is essential for making your skin healthy and the best it can be. So knowing your skin type plays a major role in taking care of your skin.

Some easy ways to find your skin type

There are 5 different skin types :

  • Oily skin
  • Dry skin
  • Normal skin
  • Combination skin
  • Sensitive skin

By understanding what type of skin you have, you can begin to make informed decisions by giving your skin the care and protection it needs now and for years to come. With two types of tests you can perform at home, you can understand what kind of skin you have.

First Method :

This test allows you to understand what kind of skin you have by just observing how your skin behaves after cleansing. Start off by washing your face with a mild cleanser and gently pat dry your face. After 30 minutes,

  • If your skin appears shiny throughout, you likely have oily skin.
  • If it feels tight and is flaky or scaly, you likely have dry skin.
  • If the shine is only on your T-Zone, you probably have combination skin.
  • If your skin feels hydrated and comfortable, but not oily, you likely have normal skin.

Second Method :

When pressed to the skin, blotting sheets absorb oil and you can use them to help you understand what type of skin you have. After washing your face with a mild cleanser, pat dry and allowing it to rest for 30 minutes, press blotting sheets to all areas of your face and then hold the sheets up to the light to see the oil markings.

  • If the sheets reveal an abundance of oil in all areas of the face, you have oily skin.
  • If they absorb little to no oil, then you probably have dry skin.
  • If the sheets show only a small amount of oil from your T-Zone, you have combination skin.
  • If you only see minimal oil from every area of your face, you most likely have normal skin.

If you have sensitive skin, you probably will notice that soaps, fragrances, skincare products, and household products may cause your skin to react which in turn causes itchiness, dryness or even reddening of your skin. In addition, exposure to cold, sun, and wind can also trigger flares.

Different skin Types

NORMAL SKIN

This skin type is neither too dry nor too oily. It has regular texture, no imperfections and a clean, soft appearance, and does not need any special care.

SENSITIVE SKIN

Sensitive skin is a fragile skin, it is usually accompanied by feeling of discomfort, such as heat, tightness, redness or itching. This skin type loses its barrier function, making it easy for irritant substances to enter it and increasing the possibility of having an allergic reaction. It is a delicate skin that needs more care to fight dryness, roughness and its usual appearance.

DRY SKIN

Dry skin is caused by external factors such as the weather, low air humidity and use of hot water, and it is usually temporary. However, for some people it may occur more often and even be a lifelong condition. Dry skin signs and symptoms may vary depending on different factors such as age, health status or their cause. It is generally characterized by a feeling of tightness and roughness.

OILY SKIN

Oily skin has a porous, humid and bright appearance. It is caused by excessive fat production by sebaceous glands, and typically determined by genetic and/or hormonal causes. It is frequent in adolescents and young people under 30 years old, and is usually related with the occurrence of acne.

COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin presents characteristics of both dry and oily skin since the distribution of sebaceous and sweat glands is not homogeneous. The area with more oil is typically the T- zone (forehead, nose, and chin), while the skin on the cheeks is normal or dry.

How To Take Care of your skin
